On February 11, 1956 the government of LSST (Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic) decided to reopen the State Drama Theatre of Kapsukas.
People of Marijampolė (or Kapsukiečiai at that time) were truly excited about young actors who would be residing and working in their hometown. The theatre was under a reconstruction, new house for the actors was in a building process (had started in 1955). The house was located in 5A I. Černiachovskio St. (currently, Vytauto Str. 15). First residents appeared in the summer of 1956.
Most famous tenants: theatre director Stasys Čaikauskas, painter Romualdas Lukšas, actors Bronius Gražys, Leonas Ciunis, Juozas Jaruševičius, Nijolė Narijauskaitė, Arnas Rosenas, Gražina Urbonaitė, Regimantas Adomaitis, Elvyra Žebertavičiūtė and others.
Not without reason this house is often referred to as “The House of Actors“. A memorial plaque to commemorate famous stars of Lithuanian theatre was attached on July 8, 2016.
