Ašmena (English: Ashmyany) is a town in Grodno Region, Belarus, located at 50 km from Vilnius. In 1340 belonged to Duchy of Vilnius. Early in 16th century the town was granted the Magdeburg law. In 1920 according to treaty between Lithuania and Soviet Union, Ašmena belonged to Lithuania. However the town was occupied by Poland the same year. In 1939 Ašmena was attached SSR of Byelorussia.
