The street is bordered by Kauno Street to the south and by R. Juknevičiaus Street to the north. It is 0,830 km in length.
In the beginning of the 19th century the city plan pictured Degučių road at the northern part of the city.
In 1920 a street of the Degučiai suburb was named Šaulių street.
In 1949 it was renamed V. Montvilos Street.
In 1990 V. Montvilos Street gained Mikalinės name.
In 1991 it was renamed to Šaulių Street once again.
Šiauliai is the fourth largest city in Lithuania. The city was first mentioned in written sources as Soule in Livonian Order chronicles describing the Battle of Saule.
