In 1904-1914 years here lived a bell-ringer, doctor, book-distributor, Vincas Kudirka’s contemporary,prime minister of Lithuania, later president Kazys Grinius (1866–1950). The wooden two-store building is one of the architectural heritage objects in Marijampolė. The building was called "Griniai house".
At the beginning of the 20th century, the house became cultural and political center of Užnemunė. Through Grinius family the national self-awareness and notion of state’s revival, forbidden press, democratic norms, language, and culture were spread.
In 1905 the first public Lithuanian meeting in Sūduva Region was arranged, during which "America in bathhouse" by Antanas Vilkutaitis-Keturakis (1864-1913) was performed. This was the place where choral rehearsals, public gatherings, meetings were happening. In 1906 “Šviesa” Society was founded, which had many branches throughout the country and a considerable library of the Society. In the third decade of 20th century the building was sold, during the Soviet times it was nationalized.
In 1998, Memorial Museum of Lithuanian President K. Grinius was established in the premises. The main activity: accumulation and storage of exhibits, presentation of Lithuanian President K. Grinius’s life and activities to the public.
Permanent exhibitions are arranged in three rooms: first one is for most prominent life facts of K. Grinius, second room exhibits his political, social activity in the life of independent Lithuania, and third room introduces public with K. Grinius’ sons and nephew: a colonel Kazys Grinius, public figure Liūtas Grinius and their cousin commander of Tauras county Vytautas Bacevičius.

Kazys Grinius, (born Dec. 17, 1866, Salema, near Marijampole, Lithuania, Russian Empire — died June 4, 1950, Chicago), Lithuanian patriot and statesman who was active in the struggle for independence from Russia and served as prime minister (1920–23) and president (1926) of the republic during the period of liberal democracy.
