In 2003 an oak cross (7,5 m in height) was placed in the southwest corner of St. Vincent Church.
Side facing the church is carved with a sculpture of Jesus – “Christ, King of the Universe”, it’s southwest part is carved with Virgin Mary or “Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace” sculpture.
Author of the cross Algimantas Sakalauskas (born Sep 22th, 1958 in Vilkaviškis District) is a famous Lithuanian folk artist for his sculptures, crosses, koplytstulpiai (Lithuanian shrine crosses). It is believed that the artist’s works carries a special spiritual energy which protects the land in which this cross is placed. Sakalauskas’ creations are based on ancient Lithuanian teachings and truths that’s why every carved detail and form has a purpose and significant meaning.
